UWC-GB Fun Run 2008

After the success of last year’s Clapham Common Fun Run we are repeating the affair with another opportunity to join in an action packed day and a great chance to get together with UWC friends and family for a fun-filled day in London, and of course to help ensure that the UWC experience can be offered to as many deserving youngsters as possible.

Betley Walk 14th June 2008

The 2008 UWC-GB Walk expanded on the previous year’s idea to enable more people to participate as well as exploring new territory by holding the event on the Cheshire/North Staffordshire border. The event was coordinated by Maggie Pearson, who generously offered her home in Betley, between Stoke-on-Trent and Crewe, as the base for the day’s events. The team of hikers successfully completed the challenge with only a couple of wrong turns along the way, and the rain thankfully held off for most of the day!

Photos from the hike are on the UWC-GB Facebook page

We had representatives from several colleges who came along to hike the hills and dales, making the day a great success. These included Paul Ridley (PC’76), and his wife Fiona and son Joe, Shafee Jones-Wilson (AW’98), and friend Patrick, Rob Waterhouse (WK’98), Chris Cammack (AW’00), Vivian Chui (AD’07), and Jimena Blanco (AW’00). The National Committee extends many thanks to everyone who was involved, and would particularly like to thank Maggie Pearson and her family for hosting the event at their lovely house in Betley.

The UWC-GB National Committee would like to thank all the sponsors for their generosity. In addition to raising money for scholarships, your support shows potential patrons, co-financiers, large-scale donors, charity partners, as well as the charity commission among others that UWC-GB has a broad base of alumni and friends of the movement in the UK. Your support, however small, is therefore always much appreciated.

We look forward to organising the 2009 UWC-GB walk and we welcome any offers and/or suggestions of places to explore across the UK, so please email events@uwc.org.uk with your ideas!
